How to Use, Spend and Earn Purple Dollars

Popular Topics

By using your Purple Visa Card for everyday purchases on Eligible Transactions anywhere that Visa is accepted, either in-store or online. For every $150 spent on Eligible Transactions, you’ll earn 1 Purple Dollar. The more you use your Purple Visa Card, the more Purple Dollars you’ll earn to spend at Participating Retailers.

Both the Main Cardholder and the Additional Cardholder will earn Purple Dollars. However, all Purple Dollars earned are applied to the Main Cardholder’s Purple Dollars Account and they can only be redeemed by the Main Cardholder.

You’ll earn Purple Dollars on Eligible Transactions. If you have an Additional Cardholder on your Card Account, Eligible Transactions made by them will also earn Purple Dollars which will be applied to the Main Cardholder’s account.
Eligible Transactions are any Transactions other than a Cash Advance, Balance Transfer, Interest Free Transaction, fees, interest and any insurance payments.

You can find out your Purple Dollar balance by:

  • Logging into eMoney; or
  • Calling us on 0800 801 808; or
  • Checking your monthly statement

If you’ve earned or redeemed Purple Dollars recently, we will do our best to show an up to date record of your Purple Dollars on eMoney, but please allow a couple of days for this to be updated.

We’ve made the Purple Dollar redemption process fairly simple. Let’s walk through the steps on how it works.

  1. When either the Main Cardholder or an Additional Cardholder completes a purchase at any Participating Retailers on any given day, the Main Cardholder will receive a SMS asking them if they would like to redeem their Purple Dollar balance for that purchase.
  2. Simply respond with a ‘yes’ before midnight (NZST) and we’ll take care of the rest.
  3. When the SMS redemption offer is accepted, we’ll send the Main Cardholder a confirmation email of the purchase.
  4. Then once we’ve processed your request, you’ll see two things on eMoney and on your next statement:
  • a credit applied to your Card Account (example: if you redeemed 20 Purple Dollars, you see a credit for $20 on your Card Account);
    Note: where you have made more than one Eligible Transaction in any given day, your Purple Dollars will be credited against your Eligible Transactions in order of purchase;
  •  your new Purple Dollar balance.

Few things to note, you won’t receive the SMS redemption offer if the:

  • Purple Dollar Account doesn’t have a balance of at least ten (10) Purple Dollars;
  • Eligible Transaction made at the Participating Retailer wasn’t for at least $10;
  • Main Cardholder hasn’t accepted the first SMS redemption offer which was sent following the first Eligible Transaction made in the day;
  • You’ve completed a purchase at another retail store, outside of the Participating Retailers we’ve listed;
  • You’ve completed an Interest Free purchase;
  • Main Cardholder has opted out of receiving SMS redemption offers;
  • We don’t have the correct mobile number for the Main Cardholder on our files; or
  • Card Account is in default or has been blocked because of a Security Event.

The Purple Dollars redemption process will be triggered when either the Main Cardholder or the Additional Cardholder completes a purchase at any Participating Retailers, either in-store or online.

Please note, since the Purple Dollars are owned by the Main Cardholder, the SMS redemption offer will go to the Main Cardholder, even if the Additional Cardholder is the one making the purchase.

You may not receive the SMS redemption offer, if the:

  • Purple Dollar Account doesn’t have a balance of at least ten (10) Purple Dollars;
  • Eligible Transaction made at the Participating Retailer wasn’t for at least $10;
  • Main Cardholder haven’t accepted the last SMS redemption offer which was sent following an Eligible Transaction made in the day;
  • You’ve completed a purchase at another retail store, outside of the Participating Retailers we’ve listed;
  • You’ve completed an Interest Free purchase;
  • Main Cardholder has opted out of receiving SMS redemption offer;
  • We don’t have the correct mobile number on our files; or
  • Card Account is in default or has been blocked because of a Security Event.

Yes, the full Purple Dollar balance will be redeemed if you accept the SMS redemption offer.

If you’re saving your Purple Dollars for a particular purchase, then ignore the SMS redemption offer triggered by a purchase at one of the Participating Retailers.

Then when you’re ready to redeem your Purple Dollars, make the desired purchase at one of our Participating Retailers and accept the SMS redemption offer.

Unfortunately, you can’t choose to redeem an amount less than the offer we send via SMS. Please refer to the above section “Do I have to redeem all of my Purple Dollar balance?”

Yes, you can. If you want to opt out of receiving the Purple Dollar SMS redemption offer, please let us know through:

  • eMoney (via Secure Message); or
  • Call us on 0800 801 808; or
  • Send us an email; or
  • Send a letter to us at: PO BOX 1204, Invercargill, 9840

Purple Dollars redemption process will be triggered when either the Main Cardholder or the Additional Cardholder completes a purchase at any Participating Retailer, either in-store or online.

However, since the Purple Dollars are owned by the Main Cardholder, the SMS redemption offer will go to the Main Cardholder, even if the Additional Cardholder is the one making the purchase.

If you get a refund on your card because you have returned a purchase to a Seller, the Transaction will be reversed on your Card Account and we may adjust the Purple Dollars you earned to reflect this.

If the amount of a Transaction was fully or partially offset by a Purple Dollar redemption, you can get a refund for that transaction from the Seller. However, your Purple Dollar redemption will not be reversed because of the refund provided by the Seller.

If you think there’s a problem with your Purple Dollar balance for example, the amount is not correctly calculated or credited to your Card Account when or how it should have been, you need to let us know within 30 days of the closing date of your relevant statement and we will investigate.

Please note that we will do our best to show an up to date record of your Purple Dollars on eMoney, but please allow a couple of days from when Purple Dollars were redeemed for this to be updated on eMoney.
